NEW VIRUS 2
There is a new attack of an old virus targeting ISP's with the subject
line of:
"Billing Notice From <company name> 's Accounting Dpt"
The body may contain verbiage similar to:
"Note if you do not read this withing 24 hours we at <company name>
regret we will have to terminate internet service."
[Note the usage of the improper word "withing".]
Some of the emails have had attachments with ".hta" extensions; DO NOT
run (double-click) these as they are programs and may harm or compromise
your computers. The above example was from a recent attack targeting
your industry--the attachment contained a "trojan" which would then
possibly allow the sender to take over your machine.
Spoofed Sites
-------------
Phishing is still on the rise; please do not trust links in emails or
even on web sites that you are not familiar with. Hacker sites are
especially notorious for this type of attack, and VISA has issued
warnings in fliers regarding the rise of these types of attacks.
Wireless Networks
-----------------
Most implementations of wireless networks are insecure and afford even a
non-technical person complete access to the data on your computer and
network. Be especially cautious when implementing them and using them
in public locations such as airports, cafe's and bookstores.
